MDPE Pipes & Fittings
​
MDPE pipes are manufactured from medium density polyethylene (MDPE), designed to stay firm against the surface stress it receives underground. They are simple and quick to connect using compression fittings (not suitable for solvent weld or push-fit). Diameters in millimeters refers to the outside pipe diameter. It's advisable to use liners or inserts in the pipes to help strengthen the connections. The pipes are commonly used to run new water mains into the house or reroute an existing mains supply. It's also used to replace worn-down pipes and to provide a water supply to gardens, so great for irrigation systems such as pop-up sprinklers. Always check for the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) approval, so you know it's suitable to carry household drinking water (aka potable applications).
In addition to it's underground use, because of the pipes rigid and bendable design, many people use these to make frames and fleece tunnels which support nets over their garden raised beds and vegetable patches. It's perfect for these types of applications.
